My Personal Information:

I have a Masters in Social Work and have over 15years experience. I have also tried every diet you can think of, seriously. The one with the beets and boiled eggs was not so much fun. I have a family history of diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity and have seen family members suffer from the devastation that comes with it. I used to work out 3 x a week and never had a problem with weight until after I had my son who was born with heart problems. I was not able to return to an exercise program as I had done before. My focus and main concern was caring for him as he was unable to crawl or walk until his first surgery. I was encouraging his appetite but at the same time feeding myself unhealthy foods. I tried to exercise watching videos, and using my treadmill and bike, but they collected more dust than activity. This program is the only one that has been so effective in my weight loss and lifestyle change. I now eat healthier, work out and exercise, and have a good balance between work, family and fun. I have truly made the lifestyle change.

Many of you have similar stories of your struggles of weight loss, and similar family history of health problems. It is never too late to make healthy changes in your life. If you are ready to make a change, Healthstop is here to support you.

Thank You

Are You Fat?

There are an estimated 97 million Americans that are over weight. You can check your status by calculating your BMI (Body Mass Index). To calculate your BMI, divide your weight (in pounds, naked) by your height (in inches, without shoes) squared, then multiply by 705. If your BMI is 25 or greater, then you can be considered overweight. If you are very fit and have a great deal of muscle on you, then the BMI alone, may not be very accurate in judging your weight.
If you don't like doing math, then you can have it calculated for you at BMI or at Aquadoc's Body Mass Calculator.
If your value is greater than 25, then you should estimate your body-fat percentage. The easiest way to do this yourself is to sit in a chair with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Using your thumb and index finger, gently pinch the skin on top of your right thigh. Measure the thickness of the pinched skin with a ruler.
For Men: If it's 1/4 of an inch or less, then you have about 14 percent body fat. That is ideal. If it is an inch, then you are closer to 18 percent fat, which is a tad high. If you pinch more than an inch, then you are overweight and at a greater risk for diabetes and heart disease.
For Women: If it's 1 inch or less, then you have about 18 percent body fat. That is good. If it is an inch and a half, then you are closer to 25 percent fat, which is a tad high. If you pinch more than two inches, then you are overweight and at a greater risk for diabetes and heart disease.
